What Is Nanotechnology?

The prefix Nano means ten to the minus ninth power or one billionth. Nano scale technologies are that branch of developmental technology that deals with the use of devices that have a size of a few nanometers. Nanotechnology is measured at the atomic and the molecular or macromolecular level. Nano’s have the length scale of approximately 1 - 100 nanometer range.

The main applications of Nanotechnology has been developed in the computer and electronic technology fields. Due to the Nano’s ability to bond to many different surfaces there are some other current uses for the technology that are already in out on the marketplace. It’s an excellent time to call GlassDM for more information about getting your glass protected today.

Why Use Nano Technology?

Problem solving with Nano--- Hydrophobic protective coatings. Although there are many ways to problem solve with Nano Technology lets focus on glass. In order to help make glass self-cleaning we need to look at the differences between hydrophilic and hydrophobic coatings? The terms hydrophilic and hydrophobic both indicate an effect on water: hydrophilic means water attracting (such as most of the so-called ‘self-cleaning-glass’- What is the difference between the so called 'self-cleaning' glass and Nano coatings?) and hydrophobic, means water repellent. While hydrophilic coatings are not highly resistant to scratches and may be even more susceptible to scratches (scratches may tend to show more easily), Nano hydrophobic type coatings are highly resistant to scratches.

Improves Vision & Repels Rain

ADG Glass uses a state-of-the-art nanotechnology to transform automotive glass into a high performance, ultra-long lasting rain repellent surface. Our non-stick invisible Nano coating turns the rainwater into beads, which are easily swept away, ensuring a clearer vision in all wet weather driving conditions. Now Nano protective coatings are not just available for to the select few. Protect your investment and keep yourself and your love ones safer.

Unique Benefits

Hydrophobic vs Hydrophilic NANO Technology

Hydrophilic Coatings
Photocatalytic properties are fused into the glass at high temperatures during the manufacturing process. The coating reacts with the sun’s ultraviolet light and water (rain or a water spray). These two elements (sunlight and water) must be present for the coating to be effective, creating a sheeting action so that water can rinse the loosened dirt away. The coating is only hydrophilic if there is enough UV light, so it is not active at night, for example.

Due to its fundamental characteristics, there are many limitations to the concept of "self-cleaning", such as the following:

  • It is not applicable to all kinds of glass, it cannot be applied in the field but rather only at manufacturing level (thus making repair or replacement a lot more expensive).
  • Hydrophilic is typically more than 4 times, and as much as 10 times, more expensive than (hydrophobic) protective coatings.
  • Hydrophobic Coatings
By comparison, Nano hydrophobic coatings are always “active” since they chemically react during the application process in less than 2 seconds and immediately bonds to the surface to create a highly hydrophobic surface.

That extremely hydrophobic (and oleo phobic – oil repellent) surface created by protective Nano based coating repels waters and oils and the contaminants they carry, from soap scum in showers to acid rain on commercial buildings, meaning the surface needs to be cleaned less. And the smooth hydrophobic Nano coating doesn’t give anything that does stick a rough surface to grab on to, making it easy to remove. So with hydrophobic Nano protective coating you need to clean less often and when you do, it’s easier. Our coatings reduce your cleaning requirement by up to 90%! Benefits of Glass Coating

  • Improves night vision by reducing glare.
  • Increases visibility in the rain!
  • Repels it’s easier to remove ice, snow, bugs and dirt.
  • Lasts for months, up to six times longer that other leading popular op glass treatments.
  • Reduce or prevent damage to auto glass and various other glass surfaces.
  • Drive with night time vision as clear as untreated daytime vision.

DFI protective coatings increase the impact and scratch resistance of glass and other silica-based surfaces. This includes transportation glass such as the windshield (or windscreens) of your car or truck. That is why thousands of fine automotive dealerships around the world offer Diamon-Fusion® to their discerning customers. Many of those automotive dealerships offer exciting warranties along with the Nano coating.

This increase in customer warranty reduces windshield rock chips, cracks and Improves protection against acid rain, corrosion, and mineral buildup. Nano glass coatings are the clear choice for your vehicle or automobile. With Diamon-Fusion Nano protective coating professionally applied windshields are tested to be up to 10x more resistant to damage from road debris. Resists pitting and etching so well that the U.S. Army applied it on Humvees to prevent damage from blowing sand in harsh environments.
